The new Battery Installation Standard (MIS 3012) outlines the requirements for MCS certified installers who supply, design, and install electrical energy storage or battery systems. It covers installations up to 50kW and Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) classes 1 – 4.
This standard specifies the requirements for MCS Contractors undertaking the supply, design, installation, set to work, commissioning and handover of electrical energy (battery) storage systems (EESS) for permanent buildings with a maximum power output of up to 50kW in the use cases described in the table below.
In the solar-plus-storage scenario, the following assumptions were made: 100-megawatt (MW), 3-hour lithium-ion battery energy storage system coupled with a 50 MW solar photovoltaic system, and a project life of 20 years.
The new standard AS/NZS5139 introduces the terms “battery system” and “Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)”. Traditionally the term “batteries” describe energy storage devices that produce dc power/energy.
As the photovoltaic (PV) industry continues to evolve, advancements in Photovoltaic energy storage battery classification standards have become critical to optimizing the utilization of renewable energy sources. From innovative battery technologies to intelligent energy management systems, these solutions are transforming the way we store and distribute solar-generated electricity.
